Better late then Never...

Well i finally finished my book. I have been reading Range of Motion by Elizabeth Berg for eight months now. Well actually I haven't been reading, that was the problem.

I started this book when my mother started her second round of chemo, back in November. And I have just been too busy to finish. Every time her or I had a doctors appt I would always bring my book and read a chapter or two. There were only about 50 or so pages and I vowed to finish; so last weekend that is just what I did... I sat and read.

There is something rewarding (not to mention enlightening) about reading an entire book.

Poker on my phone...

Texas holdem on my I phone... well it sounded like a good idea at the time. If I have a minute or two to waste, I find myself logging on to beat these imaginary players... and being extremely happy when I do.

Sorry, it is just too much fun.

Busy Summer

I think of things to say in my blog everyday... but just don't take the time to sit and write them out. And for the most part, I am mad at myself. I know how much fun it is and how informative it is to read back.

At any rate, this has been one of the busiest summers in a long, long time. I thought that teaching two summer school classes (online) shouldn't be too bad, but Oh boy was I wrong.

First week, I read and returned 210 e-mails. an average of 3.5 e-mails a person. I think we got the slackers weeded out, both of my 35+ student body class down to around 20 students each and they are much more manageable. So far this week only 7. YEAH team.

Big Thank You

I have to publicly give a big THANK YOU to my darling daughter and wonderful Son-in-law for making it possible for us to get away for a few days.

Yes I did spend 2 and a half full days at a conference, but it was really great to get away and not be encumbered by daily reponsibilities.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank You, Love U Bunches.

People Watcher

I just got back from a conference in Las Vegas, and boy if you are a people watcher there is no better place then Vegas.

It was extremely crowded and it was very interesting to watch the people have fun throwing there money away. Now let me say, I was blackjacking and slotting with the rest but I was truly amazed to see how freely people were feeding the machines with their hard earned cash.

And WHY??? for the opportunity to beat the odds and walk away with the Millions Ahaaa, the American Dream, is a live and well.

Responsibilities Growing Exponentially

I am not sure how it happens but responsibilities seem to be growing... in all aspects of our life. I am hoping that this is like a bell shaped curve and we are are the top of the ark because I can not keep going like this.

This is suppose to be our down time, our re-coop and re-group time. but sadly it is not, in fact, others seem to think oh boy... more time for me and my problems..

The Good part of being in Education

It is definitely satisfying to see a student make it to the end and successfully complete the semester. I will never get use to that wonderful rush you get when a student realizes the benefit of a good education.

But I have to say... I really enjoy and appreciate the down time afforded educators. It is so wonderful not because we are lazy... quite the opposite, it is because we work really hard during the semester. Most do not know how very draining it is to be ON and PREPARED everyday.

And I for one appreciate, not have to juggle a million things for a few weeks (only a couple thousand).

Happy Summer.

Strange happening....

Let me start by saying i am not racist. I even recently bought several t-shirts called ERASISM; a movement to erase racism, the saying were kind of cool so i bought several of them.

But my recent experience was a little bazaar. Tony and i were hungry so we chose for the many restaurants in the area, well I was hungry for Chinese so we settled on Panda Express (good food for a good price). We stepped up to the counter and you are usually greeted by two questions... is this for dinning here or for takeout and would you like chow-mien or rice?

Well I could not decipher if he was asking either of these questions, I looked to Tony for help, but he had a blank look on his face too. The guy behind the counter didn't speak much English at all(he thought he was but trust me it was not English). He was soon assisted by a nice young lady who was running the cash register. I think if you are going to greet the public and represent the company you should know ENGLISH.

The strange part was not that he knew little English, it was that he was Hispanic. I looked around and every worker was Hispanic. I glanced around a crowded restaurant again and noticed that Tony and I were two of three white folks in the restaurant... all the rest were Hispanic; and yes, several of them were using chop-sticks.I guess everyone gets tired of rice, beans and tortillas some of the time.

And an even stranger occurance, there was not even a Asian in sight... not one.
I don't know, the world seemed a little on tilt today.

Technology...

Technology is a great thing... when it works. When it does not work, it is one of the most devastating event in ones life. It would not be so bad, but we have become so reliant on our various modes of technology that we are lost without them.

Having said that, I am going to venture out without, yes without, my iphone. Scary, but i can do (I think I can, I think i can, I think I can). If you do not hear from me in a few hours, please send someone to come find me. I love all of you.

I hate ZUMA

Well, let me explain. With all the frustration i have been experiencing at work these days I found ZUMA to be an excellent release. And so was the case the other day.

I really thought that this would be the day to conquer level 9. I was having a good, very good day. I made it all the way to level 9 and didn't die once... I had 10 lives and thought this might be the day.

Well I didn't get too far into level nine until I began to die left and right. It is just not fair, not fair I say.
